Chilly Saturday morning at the Zoo

Saturday the kiddos and I met up with grandparents at the zoo, I love the zoo :) One of the good things that comes out of being the child of divorced thrice parents, my kids are blessed with a multitude of grandparents, whether biological or not, it doesn't matter, only more people to give them love, is how I see it :) Anyways, it was rather chilly and overcast, but it still made for a nice morning at the zoo. We were the first one's in and all the animals were anxious to be fed, and were up and running around.
This little llama ran right up to greet us....and nibble up the kiddos food

The bird house, so much fun, these birds fly right down to you

The peacock, always trying to get a good shot of one of these guys

This little baby zebra was so cute! I didn't get a shot, but they had a two year old little hippo to, and couple of week old baby gorilla, so adorable!

Chasing the peacock again ;)

A few more pops of pink

I meant to get this up yesterday, but Mondays and I just don't get along ;) Anyways, as I mentioned Friday, after I hung up the curtains I made in Little Miss B's room, it definitely needed a few more pops of dark pink. So I decided some pillows and a redone mirror might do the trick.
An inexpensive black mirror, had in a box from moving, can;'t remember where I picked it up at. I covered the mirror with cardboard and painters tape, and then used a couple coats of Krylon spray paint in Watermelon, to give it a makeover.

The pillows I used a pink tufted taffeta and a really soft dotted cotton on the reverse because Baylor wanted it to be snuggly. I didn't do a step by step tutorial, sorry, but I just bought pillow forms, cut the fabric to it's length and the sewed around three sides, stuffed the pillow in and sewed in the fourth side.

I also made a small round pillow and added a crystal pin to the center for a little bit of bling.

Not sure if the mirror will stay here, but this is where I've placed it for the meantime.

More Curtains

So actually I was on a bit of a sewing spree last weekend, in addition to the "man room" curtains, I also picked up fabric for Little Miss B's room too (here and here). I hadn't planned on it, but then I saw this super cute tulle fabric with satin designs on top, I thought it would be a great pop of color to her room. So on these, I didn't iron the sides, as they had a finished edge, I just folded the top over about 4 inches, sewed a straight seam, and done.

They look really cute, other then the cheapo curtain rod, it was not good, gonna pickup something similar to what I did in the man room this weekend to replace. I managed to break it just getting it out of the package, super glue temporarily fixed it ;)

Before & After

After They were hung, I decided she needed a few more bright pops here and there, so back to Joanns, and I picked out some tufted taffeta, and really soft plush dot fabric that Little Miss B wanted so she could flip it over and it would be very snuggly. Here's a sneal peak of the fabrics. Check back Monday to see the finsihed results :)

♥♥♥  PINK

Have a lovely weekend!!

Gal Pal Retro Ice Bag

Love this!! I found this at Francesca's last weekend and scooped it right up. If you've got kids, and they're anything like mine, when they get bumps or bruises they want ice, and you usually end up with a bag full of ice that melts and drips everywhere. This is perfect, you add ice and then some cold water, screw on the cap, and instant no-mess cold press :) And as for the martini motif, well it was this or little orange smiley faces, which neither me or Little Miss B much cared for.

Five minutes after I shot these, Little Miss B bumped her head on the edge of the granite bar, so I got an "in use" shot, needless to say she was not amused ♥

My First BirchBox

I finally recieved my first Birchbox last Friday, and could not wait to get it unwrapped and see what suprises awaited inside.

The Goods!!
So I recieved a Jouer lipgloss, Glow and Go Travel puff, Show Stoppers garment strips, Eye Rock Liner Strips, Viva La Juicy Perfume, and a music download card which I forgot to picture
This Jouer lipgloss in Birchbox pink I love, it's so  bright and fun ♥ The show stoppers strips will be great in the future for those dresses that always tend to dips to low or won't stay put.
I haven't tried these liners strips yet, but the hubby's birthday is coming up, and I think we'll probably be going out for the evening with friends, so I'll definitely be giving these a try then.

Creating Curtains

I am by no means an avid sewer, I simply enjoy trying my hand at things. This weekend I finally got around to picking up some fabric to try making some curtains, the only thing I could find that I liked was a white linen (ended up being super inexpensive too, because of the President's day sale :), so I decided I would start with the front game room/man room/bar/whatever??

I picked up rod iron finals and a coordinating rod from Bed Bath Beyond

I Hung the hardware for the rods a 1/2" from the bottom of the base, to really lengthen the room and take advantage of the 9' ceilings

I ironed both the left and right sides creating a two inch fold and then sewed a straight seam up both sides. Make sure you take the time to iron it makes such a difference!

My little helper....okay really she just climbed up and down the ladder :)

For the bottoms I folded up three inches and sewed across a straight seam, and the top I folded over 6 inches to give a really nice deep pocket

Curtains done, and we're ready to hang!

I think sewing the really deep pockets makes for a much nicer bunching look

Ta-da, so light and airy :)

I made sure to buy extra length so that I would have that little bit of puddling of fabric at the bottom

Welcome to our light and airy man room, lol ;), Ignore the ugly light fixture, that will eventually be replaced!

Love the print of this pillow, from Home Goods

Excuse the messy cords, I haven't had time to hide those yet :)
